Auer Photo Foundation
Rue du Couchant - Hermance, Switzerland
This small building was designed to house a photography collection of global value in a very specific context. It is located in a plot at the upper part of the “Vieux Bourg”,the fortified medieval village of Hermance, on the shores of lake Geneva.
The Auer Photo foundation building complements an old farmhouse that forms a remarkable whole, both by volume and by its morphology. The new massing is intentionally simple, based on a square plan which evokes the old fortifications.
Massive and minimalist architecture gives the building a timeless identity which allows a gentle integration with its historic context. This radical expression also answers the need for a controlled environment in order to preserve the photography collection.
