Renovation and extension of a semi-detached housextension
This project consists of the renovation and extension of a semi-detached house located in the town of Plan-les-Ouates. This project questions current issues of densification in residential areas (« villa zone »).
Initially, the client wanted to reorganize the ground floor only.
During the house and site survey however, we noticed two important things. First, the building rights hadn’t been fully exploited. Second, the organization of the spaces was in contradiction to the geographical orientation.
With this in mind, we proposed a total reorganization of the spaces, taking into consideration the massing of the neighbouring buildings.
We raised the roof in order to create an habitable attic. The volume of the new attic is painted in white in order to be identified from the original house.
Ground floor extensions are treated with glass and concrete to increase the living spaces and provide different orientations and relationships to the landscape.
The project is completed by a garage for 3 or 4 cars. A car lift was installed on the property line and a basement extension was built thanks to innovative engineering solutions.
